Thrive Communication Therapy is an independent Speech and Language Therapy service providing support for families and educational settings across the North West of England. We support children and young people with speech, language and communication challenges (SLCC) to access learning and social opportunities through direct intervention groups, training, environmental support and advocacy.
Thrive Communication therapy partnered with All Child in October 2024 to deliver tailored speech and language therapy support in 3 primary schools in Leigh. Our focus has been identifying and raising awareness of the speech, language and communication challenges (SLCC) for the children on the cohort and delivering interventions, both small group and 1:1, to help each child achieve their potential. There is a significant link between language and communication difficulties and social, emotional needs and the recognition of looking beneath the behaviour is crucial in supporting positive outcomes for the AllChild students.
We have worked closely with the Link Workers and SENCOs in school to identify children who may have additional SLCC. Being a regular delivery partner in the schools has allowed for us to build positive relationships with AllChild, school staff and the children which has greatly contributed to the progress of the children in the cohort.
Speech and language therapy covers a wide range of areas, and we have been delivering effective intervention to support:
Alongside our intervention sessions we have also had the opportunity to build in some wider universal work. In one of our schools, we have had the opportunity to deliver staff training on ‘Communication Friendly Environments’ to ensure that the classrooms and teaching staff are able to support children with SLCC confidently and effectively. In another school we have had the opportunity to join a parent coffee morning ‘chill and chat’ to meet parents in the wider community and offer support and advice for developing speech and language skills at home.
Looking ahead to the summer term, we are excited to continue our work in two of the primary schools. We hope to build on the fantastic progress the children have made over the past year and support the transition of their new skills into the classroom to set them up for success in the next academic year. We hope to continue our relationship with AllChild to extend the reach of Speech and Language Therapy to further schools in the future!
