In a world often dominated by adult-driven initiatives, the power of young people to effect meaningful change in their communities can sometimes be overlooked. However, two students from St Paul's Boys have proven that young people possess the power to make a difference.
Inspired by AllChild's impactful work following a presentation at their school, the students made it their goal to enrich the educational opportunities of other young people in their community by starting a project dedicated to providing books to schools identified as needing some extra resources.
The students chose to run a half marathon to raise funds, demonstrating amazing determination. The half marathon was not easy, with pouring rain and fatigue testing them along the way. Yet, their commitment to the cause saw them cross to the finish line, ultimately raising an impressive £5,000.
Working with AllChild, the students have been provided information on schools that either lack nearby libraries or are deficient in books. This data will guide the allocation of resources, ensuring that the £5000 is directed where it will have the greatest impact.
When asked why they had been inspired by AllChild on this project the students said,
“We chose to support AllChild because of the amazing work they do to help kids and young people who may not have the same opportunities as others. They focus on getting in early and working directly with schools to provide support through their Link Workers which really makes a difference.”
This initiative highlights the incredible potential of young people to support one another and drive change in their communities. Across our communities, young people possess the desire and the determination to effect meaningful change. Our Impact Programme provides children and young people the opportunities to develop their skills in leadership and collective action. By providing resources and linking to community projects, even more young people can come together and be successful in championing the causes that matter to them.
