Tutor's Green: Tailored academic tutoring

April 4, 2025

Tutors Green is the UK’s leading online and in-person tuition provider. We are based inLondon and run tuition programmes across the UK. We work with tutors who are subject specialists and have years of proven experience as a tutor, to deliver first-class tuition to students who may not normally access it. We work closely with schools, charities and local authorities to deliver our programmes with the goal of making the highest standard of tuition available for every child.

How do we work together with AllChild?

Since January 2022, we’ve successfully delivered English and Maths tuition in over 10 primary and secondary schools with AllChild. We collaborate closely with Link Workers, ensuring students are matched with the right tutors for their academic goals. Our tutors provide one-to-one, hour-long sessions tailored to individual needs, complementing the pastoral support AllChild offers. While student wellbeing is central to both our missions, we are proud that our tuition achieves measurable academic success.

What is so important about our work?

We believe that every child deserves to gain academic support and success. With socio-economic backgrounds taken into account, those from private schools achieve 83% better GCSE results. It’s proven that 1:1 and small group tuition can be one of the most effective and highest impact teaching interventions for students; especially for those students without access to it. Our interventions have allowed students to gain this academic support and meet their learning outcomes, including AllChild’s online assessments. Our sessions are always catered for the needs of individual students.

For example, one of our students, Nick*, has a history of being disengaged in sessions, especially in maths. However, having built up a great relationship with our maths tutor in his school,Nick’s tutor began to tailor the sessions to his individual interests. For example, Nick really enjoys travelling and cars. Our tutor rapidly adapted to this, following the narrative of travelling from Manchester to London by using different cars, using calculations to work out speeds, times, and amounts of fuel needed. The student was engaged throughout and has reported the sessions as ‘calm’; a greatly positive review from Nick! His assessments scores in tests from AllChild have also improved, evidencing his engagement.

In one of our English sessions, our tutor noticed that the young person Mahima* was not interested in extended writing, but that she enjoyed discussing stories about what had happened during the school day. Using this as inspiration, they started analysing and creating extended writing based on autobiographies. This meant the student was able to read and analyse extracts from non-fiction like Sylvia Plath’s diary and The Catcher in the Rye, and have gained a more personal approach to their writing and learning journey, exploring new techniques to engage readers. This project has supported the student’s academic progress in English and above all, it has helped them to personally and creatively engage with writing and reading again!
